Research-Based Social Skills for Students

"She has love, love, loved this whole program and she looks forward to every single call, Thank you so much for everything! She has developed so much through the program and it has been great. I have seen huge growth in her communication. She can start up a conversation with almost anyone these days! We really appreciate everything. Thanks!"

Proven success, university research-backed results

iSocial is rated as the top social skills development program by parents, teachers and behavioral health practitioners. For example parents and educators in St Louis were so impressed by iSocial they created a scholarship fund so St Louis Special School District students can attend iSocial for free https://www.sef-stl.org/what-we-do/autism-independence-project.html . iSocial is the product of over 5 years of university research and development (R01 and R21 grants alone exceeded $5 million).

  • 17 technical review articles with 900 students prove efficacy.
  • Communications confidence improved by 44% (on the Social Responsiveness Scale).
  • Most of the students volunteer to continue to meet weekly even after graduation.

A Roadmap to Social Success

Phase 1

Foundational skills

Essential skills based on seventeen peer-reviewed technical articles prove efficacy across a thousand students who participated in the research and development process.

  • Recognizing facial expressions
  • Sharing ideas with peers
  • Turn-taking and conversations
  • Understanding feelings and emotions
  • Foundational problem-solving
Phase 2

Advanced skills

Advanced team-based problem-solving provides guided modeling and development of real-world skills. Interactions are contextualized for each age group—children and adolescents.

  • Professional communication skills
  • Developing a professional image
  • Spotting and repairing social errors
  • Self-advocacy in school settings
  • Transitioning from surviving to thriving
Phase 3

Continuing development in “Keeping it Fresh”

Most students want to continue attending weekly Zoom sessions even after they graduate. They want to maintain weekly contact with their new social circle. The sessions are definitely fun and they share stories but they also reinforce and supplement their new social skills.

  • Skills refresher activities
  • Social hour conversations
  • Supplemental skills for classrooms
  • Guided peer reinforcement
  • Meeting with friends weekly

The iSocial Methodology

The success of iSocial obviously comes from the years of expert research and development. A lot of the credit however needs to go to the students themselves. The CEO of iSocial is on the board of the World Autism Forum. Temple Grandin told us to match our students based on their common interests. That’s why we use Zoom to match 6 students based on age, abilities and interests. Students excel in this autism affirming and strength-based environment. They develop with 5 others “just like me” and are supported by a co-host adult who is also on the spectrum.

iSocial empowers neurodiverse students to gain clarity, confidence and social skills.

Testimonials from parents of students in the workshop

“My son was always physically present but emotionally absent. He would observe what was happening around him but would not engage or interact with others. He never initiated a conversation or asked a question.  He has been in some type of social group for years but nothing was effective until iSocial. He has developed more this summer at iSocial than he did in all those years of ABA. That therapy was just repetition, repetition, repetition.  Honestly, he was just a body that teachers led around. The other programs talked at my son. iSocial is the opposite. My son develops by doing and experiencing everything himself. He is finally thinking independently and interacting with the world around him. He loves iSocial videos, games, examples and role play with others. What he is learning in iSocial activities is carried over to the real world right away.”

-Mother of a private academy student

“iSocial has made this transition back to school the best ever. Please understand that for the first six weeks after school started, I would avoid scheduling any meetings for an hour after school got out. I knew I would always have an incident or an episode that I had to deal with after school. This year I haven’t had a single episode to contend with. This is 1,000 % better”

-St Louis SSD mother

“At iSocial I’ve learned that I’m not alone in feeling socially inadequate. After working with 5 people like me, I no longer feel like a failure. Before iSocial, I felt like I was alone in feeling that way. Now I understand that I am not alone.” I just didn’t get the manual on how to socialize with other people. It’s something that a lot of us struggle with. We worked together at iSocial and got better through practice and learning. That’s why I never left iSocial.”
